“Wreck Beneath the Cosmos”
This photo was taken near the wreck of the Dimitrios, near Gythio, in the Peloponnese.
This imposing 20th-century cargo ship has been abandoned on the beach at Selinitsa since 1981. While some believe it was used to smuggle illegal cigarettes between Turkey and Italy, others call it a ghost ship, its origins remaining a mystery.
Capturing this image was a true test of endurance: a long night battling relentless swarms of mosquitoes, my face and hands covered with whatever I could find for protection.
For this photo, I used a Pentax K-1 camera with built-in Astrotracer and GPS, paired with a Pentax 15-30mm f/2.8 lens. For the sky: 3 shots, 90 seconds, f/3.5, ISO 800 (merged in Sequator).
For the wreck: 3 shots, 60 seconds, f/3.5, ISO 800 (merged in Photoshop).
Finally, I merged the sky and foreground in Photoshop to create the final composition.
